Stream Wars
I've been considering our media packages for a long time. We (I) spend a fair bit on streaming subscriptions:
- Netflix (included with our Sky bundle)
- Prime (included with Amazon Prime anyway)
- Disney+
- Paramount (I got a 50% off for the first year deal, so I took it)
- AppleTV+ (included with Apple One)
Looking at it like this, I'm actually only paying for 3 additional services.
I really want to get rid of Sky, but my wife is not convinced - even though it is she who complains about the cost!!
With a smart TV, I am able to access all of the above via their stand-alone apps.
The only reason for Sky is the sports; which we both like. I could just get the sports package through NowTV (another app on the tv) and could save us a fortune.
It's the familiarity of using the Sky box that is one of the sticking points.
With all the streaming services it got me to thinking; surely content can't be churned out fast enough?
Oh! Believe me, it can. Looking at the catalogues, there is an abundance of content for both movies and television.
It's crazy.
I grant you - they are not all of the highest quality. Some of them are downright awful, but there are some gems available too.
Plus it does also open us up to seeing international programmes too; some of which we've quite enjoyed.
We watch a lot of tv, and most of it is NOT on the regular terrestrial services. So, even though it costs, I feel we get value for money.
