Doony & Me

Buy Me A Coffee

I want to talk about the “Buy me a coffee” button at the bottom of the page (and all the other pages on this blog).

This is run by Ko-Fi, a service where you, dear reader, can show appreciation for the work of the creator in small ways. In the case of Ko-Fi, the default is to buy a coffee (Ko-Fi!)

Writing can be a lonely business. I used to spend hours thinking of various subjects to write about; then write, edit, find images and publish.

This used to be on Medium; but I haven’t published there for a while, and the eagle-eyed amongst you may notice that some of the posts here were previously published over there.

Does that make me lazy? I don’t think so.

In many cases, I have updated the posts before re-publishing them, so they are up-to-date.

Free For Everyone

However, I wanted to make my articles available for everyone, and I was sucked into publishing for members only. I could have changed that, but for reasons unknown, I simply didn’t.

Maybe I was enticed by the small dollars I was earning, rather than just writing for writing sake?

Anyway. I moved to the Bear Blog platform back in June, and this allows me to publish freely to all readers.

I decided to add a link to my own Ko-Fi page, so that you may, if you wish, throw a few pounds my way as a token of your appreciation.

Cancer Research UK

When I set this up I decided that I would donate 20% of money earned via Ko-Fi, to Cancer Research UK. This I have mentioned on my Ko-Fi page. At least it feels like I’m doing some good at the same time - it’s not all take, take, take.

At the time of writing, I have donated approximately £10, based on my earnings. I know it’s not exactly game-changing but, as they say “every little helps”.

So there we are.

That is why there is a “Buy me a coffee” at the bottom of this page that is linked to my Ko-Fi account.
