Doony & Me

A Grand Day Out

Summer time is always ideal for getting out and about.

Now that the children have all flown the nest, there are two points to make:

  1. There is no-one moaning why we're doing what we're doing. The number of times one or more complains about outings!

  2. There is no-one to rush back home to.

In other words, we are free to go where we want to go and enjoy our time together, free from the burden of the kids.

I may be being a little disingenuous... I love them, but there are times when they are so unappreciative of the joys of a day out.

This past weekend, my wife and I decided on the spur of the moment to take ourselves off to the seaside.

It's about an hour away (so long as the traffic keeps moving) and it's wonderful to get to the coast. Coming from Bournemouth, I relish being by the sea.

So, without needing to coax anyone else, we got up, and got out.

The weather was beautiful.

A little breezy, but delightful fresh air, under blue skies.

We walked along the prom, bought ice-creams, went to a favourite restaurant for lunch, spent time around the lake, and then took ourselves to a Blues and Jazz Festival.

We would NEVER have done this with children in tow.

I like a little bit of jazz music, and we sat in the sunshine listening to bands, more food from this Pizza van, and then moved inside to listen to more music.

We didn't get back home until 11:40 at night!!

All I would say is that you need spontaneity in life. Nothing needs to be planned to the minute and, with fun and laughter, experiences and memories are made.

Do you have a favourite day out
